during the 2002 New Jersey Science, Convention, Somerset, NJ.
- NASA: A support for Teachers and Students (Tuesday, October 15th 8:30 - 9:30 AM
This session will focus on how NASA resources can be accessed as a means of supporting classroom teachers and students throughout the year in state-based reform and standards-based environment. NASA offers support in the context of science, mathematics, technology, and geography...AS ONLY NASA CAN, and therefore offers unique opportunities for enhancing learning through its curriculum support materials, technology-based venues, and staff available for training within New Jersey.

Dr. Robert Gabrys is the Chief of Educational Programs at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD. Dr. Gabrys has been involved in the education field for more than 35 years. He started his career as a teacher at LaSalle college from where he obtained his bachelors degree in 1966 and went on to become the vice principal of Palloti high school, Laurel, MD. He then became the Director of Educational services at the school of education in Syracuse university, from where he obtained his Doctorate in 1977. He then joined the West Virginia education where he went on to become the Director of General and Professional education in 1985. He joined the Maryland Department of education as a branch chief in 1987 and was promoted to Assistant State Superintendent in 1993. He joined NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in 1996 as the Chief of its Education Office. He has been widely recognized throughout his career as a leading educator and teacher and is the recipient of numerous awards and grants fromm the state and federal government.
